Sailing lessons with COSA
Wind in Your Sales gives youth the opportunity to experience the unique and challenging sport of sailing with qualified COSA instructors. Participants learn how to operate and enjoy sailing a boat while getting outside their comfort zone and finding similarities to the challenges of everyday life.
This program is offered by COSA in July/August.
Who it’s for
This program is for youth ages 10-18 years old.
What to expect
Participants get an opportunity to learn and experience the joys of harnessing the wind and cruising across Lake Okanagan with the sun shining down and the splash of water on their faces. Starting with the foundations of sailing, participants will learn how to skipper their own boat and sail with confidence. Harness your inner pirate and come join us and learn to sail!
What you’ll learn
Youth will be working towards Sail Canada CANSail 1 or 2. Almost all instruction will be on the water, with youth paired in their very own 14’ FJ sailboat. Sailors will learn the basics of sailing on and off the water, including:
- Terminology
- Water safety
- The ability to rig and de-rig the boats independently
- The skill to launch, set sail, and return to the dock.
By the end of the program, students will be able to sail around Okanagan Lake safely. Fun is an important part of this course, with age appropriate games and activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, and Hobie Cat sailing!
Dates
Youth can sign up for any program being offered by COSA in July/August. Seats are available on a first come first serve basis. Once COSA has sold out their programs, spaces are no longer available, so register early to ensure your spot!
